Meet Cassy

Hi! I'm Cassy—the creative mess-maker, fabric collector, thrift-store treasure hunter, and maker behind Rhode Island Re-Thread.

By day, I work full time for a construction company here in Rhode Island. By nights and weekends, you'll usually find me behind a sewing machine, digging through thrift stores, or packing up my creations and heading to an artist market somewhere around our little state.

I have a slight obsession with rescuing beautiful things that other people have forgotten about. Jean jackets? Yes. Men's dress shirts? Absolutely. A wool sweater that's seen better days? Into my cart it goes! While most people see something headed for the donation bin, I see the beginning of my next favorite creation.

Every piece I make starts with a little imagination and a whole lot of, "What if...?" That's how forgotten textiles are transformed into one-of-a-kind jean jackets, flowy beach dresses, ruffled button-down shirts, baby pieces, accessories, and whatever else my imagination comes up with next. If I can give something old a beautiful new purpose, I'm all in.

I'm also a proud dog lady, and you'll rarely find me sewing alone. My faithful sidekick, Coco, is usually curled up right behind me in my sewing room, keeping me company (and occasionally reminding me when it's time for a snack or a walk). She's the unofficial quality control manager and the heart behind Rhode Island Re-Thread.

One of my absolute favorite parts of this little business is spending weekends at artist markets. Of course I love seeing my creations find their people, but the markets have become about so much more than selling. I love seeing returning customers, meeting new ones, catching up with fellow vendors, and getting to know the incredible organizers who put so much work into creating these events.

I've also gotten to experience some pretty beautiful spaces along the way—from beaches and farms to unique venues and quintessential Rhode Island settings. There's something special about setting up my little corner of Rhode Island Re-Thread alongside so many talented local artists and makers and spending the day surrounded by creativity.

And nothing beats watching someone find their piece. No two creations are ever exactly alike, and I wouldn't have it any other way. You're not buying something that rolled off an assembly line—you're taking home a handcrafted piece with a past, a new story, and a personality all its own.

When I'm not working, sewing, or at a market, you'll probably find me wandering thrift stores in search of hidden treasures, dreaming up my next design, or convincing myself that I definitely have room for just one more basket of fabric. (Spoiler alert: I usually don't!) My sewing room may look a little chaotic, but I promise there's a method to the madness—every pile has potential.

Rhode Island Re-Thread is my creative outlet, my excuse to keep collecting fabric, and a way to turn something I love doing into something I get to share with other people.

Thank you for supporting my small business, shopping local, showing up for artist markets, and helping give beautiful textiles a second chance. Every purchase helps prove that sustainability doesn't have to be boring—it can be colorful, creative, unexpected, and full of personality.

Welcome to Rhode Island Re-Thread, where yesterday's fabric becomes tomorrow's favorite thing. ❤️

  • I absolutely love my upcycled jean jacket! It’s the perfect piece to throw over a little black dress, adding just the right amount of casual, effortless edge. The denim has so much character, and I love knowing that it’s been given a new life. It’s versatile, unique, and instantly makes an outfit feel more relaxed and cool. A beautiful, sustainable addition to any wardrobe.

  • My daughter and I each got a beautiful jacket and we couldn’t be happier! The details are SO gorgeous and well done. I wore mine to a wedding and got tons of compliments. I love that Cassy gives life to pre loved garments, making them each unique and chic- upcycling at its best! These are pieces you could definitely wear and pass down as I will with my daughter.
